Turkey is a blend of old and new, with a traditional and ancient social culture but striving diligently to build a modern economy that can hold its own on a
global scale. The purpose here is to assess the market that exists in Turkey for disposable diapers. The Economy Turkey technically is
a developing economy, based on its per capita GDP of $7,000 (Turkey). A "less developed" economy is one in which per capita income is less than $9,266, the point
at which the World Bank considers an economy to be a high-income one (What Is An Emerging Market?, 2002). Per capita income can be either above or below this
mark in an emerging market. An emerging market is "a country making an effort to change and improve its economy with the goal of raising its performance to that
of the worlds more advanced nations" (What Is An Emerging Market?, 2002). In this sense, an emerging market country does not have to be poor to qualify for the
distinction, but it certainly is one in transition, as is the case in Turkey. The Population Turkey is a country of 67 million
people, 27 percent of whom are below the age of 14 (Turkey). As a developing nation, Turkey still retains a high birth rate of 17.95 births/1,000 population in 2002
(Turkey), with an average of two children born to each woman. Though Turkeys average life expectancy is more than 71 years, it still
