to be revitalised. It was against this background that Sir John Egan made the ground breaking report Rethinking Construction. This is a report that is attempting to make some
great changes to the construction industry, increasing profitability, competitive and good practices. The report is put forward and a win win scenarios, for all involved, but to operate within the
framework it lays down there are many challenges. The traditional conflicting model of contracts is questions with a greater emphasis placed on partnerships. In order to understand the impact that
this will have on the construction industry and the challenges it will pose the recommendations themselves have to be considered. It is worth
noting that at the current time the majority of models formed on Egans framework have emerged in the social housing sector, with councils and/or housing associations as well as government
projects. It may be that this is the starting point as it is also the area where the savings may be of most value. In analysing this it is very
apparent how and why long term relatiohsips between the different parties are important and necessary. This report looked at the construction industry
as a whole, and the ways in which it needed to improve. In making his recommendations to the government the Sir John Egan stated; "In formulating our proposals for improving
performance we have studied the experience that has been gained at the cutting edge of construction and in other industries that have transformed themselves in recent years. We have learnt
that continuous and sustained improvement is achievable if we focus all our efforts on delivering the value that our customers need, and if we are prepared to challenge the waste
