is actually a part of the brain that is comprised of several more commonly known components. The diencephalon is comprised of the thalamus and the hypothalamus for the most part,
but it is also a part of the brain that involves other areas as well: "Other portions of the diencephalon are the optic tracts and optic chiasma, the infundibulum (attachment
for the pituitary), the posterior pituitary, mammillary bodies, and the pineal gland" (The Brain, 2003). In the following paper we provide a creative look at the functions of the diencephalon
through a first person perspective, with the person being the diencephalon and the body housing the diencephalon being an individual named Joe. I am Joes Diencephalon It is
hard to begin a description of who I am or perhaps, more accurately, what I look like. You cannot possibly guess the magnitude of my work or my general functions
by seeing me. But, then I suppose you could not truly guess the functions of some other body parts just by looking at them. I suppose that what I am
trying to say that my functions are great and without me Joe, my host, would be next to nothing. Now, I must argue that I am not saying that
my functions are more important than many others, such as the heart and the lungs, but I am saying that I rank with those body organs, or parts, which keep
an individual alive in a manner that can provide the host with a meaningful existence. In short, when something goes wrong with me, the host suffers in many different ways,
most of which will serve to make the hosts existence difficult and perhaps even seen as an existence that is not worth continuing. This is because my functions are diverse
