Anatol Rapoport and Gregory Bateson (Banathy, 1996, Bateson, 1979). This is a concept that may be seen as trans-disciplinary or multidisciplinary as it is not limited to only certain areas
of study and today may be seen in many disciplines, from ontology to computing and from social sciences to accounting (Meadows, 2008). In this approach the entire environment is seen
as a system and those within it are part of that system, so assessment of events and influences should not be considered in isolation, but as part of a system
in which they occur. Looking at the development of General System Theory it may be argued that the concept of the framework
had been envisaged as a de facto model prior to its development as a specific model, this is seen in the work of a number of theorists, Charles Darwin had
written in his work that he was inclined to look at everything as resulting from designed laws and it may also be argued that there was the intuitive conception of
general systems theory by Wolfgang von Goethe when he postulated the idea that there was a unity of design within different organisms or groups which led to a universal law
of harmony (BCSSS, 2010). Likewise, Ernst Heinrich Haeckel took the views of Goethe and built on them seeing nature as abiding by universal laws created orchestrated unity (BCSSS, 2010).
It is here that there are general systems being perceived and out forward as a way of examining the world and the events within it, so the development of the
specific theory may be seen as emanating from these approaches. It was Ludwig von Bertalanffy that developed the specific theory. His ideas
