Republic of China is a Communist state ("China," 2005). Its laws are based on criminal law, custom and statute, and a rudimentary civil code("China," 2005). There are no significant political
groups which exist in the nation but the government contend that "the Falungong spiritual movement" in addition to the China Democracy Party are subversive groups ("China, " 2005). China is
a nation that attaches importance to hierarchy and tradition and this has been the case historically. In China, President HU Jintao has held the office since March of 2003
and the head of government is Premier WEN Jiabao who has also held the position since that time period ("China," 2005). Officially, this is an atheist nation ("China," 2005). The
government does not allow religion. Nevertheless, there are reports that Christianity has emerged in the nation. One estimate puts Christians to be at about three or four percent of the
population with either Buddhist, Daoist or Muslim at one or two percent ("China," 2005). Japan, on the other hand, is a constitutional monarchy and has a parliamentary government ("Japan,"
2005). Its laws are modeled after European civil law and it is influenced by the English and American systems of governance ("Japan," 2005). Emperor AKIHITO has been the chief of
