economically. China has been changing politically too, and at least it is ruffling fewer feathers. Of course, China is not perfect, and there are many critics. Still, when all is
said and done, China is growing tremendously today. Its growth is an indication that this nation does intend to trade and be a part of the world instead of in
isolation. And this new attitude has been lucrative for the Chinese. Of course, this was not always the case. China has had many problems in the past and still does,
despite the fact that its future looks bright. First, it should be noted that communism had affected the nation and its people a great deal. It still does. Over the
years, much has been made about human rights violations in this country. In fact, China is still criticized along those lines and struggles to get most favored nation status each
year. However, when looking at twentieth century history for example, Japan would shine. Japan was in Asia too, but it seemed to be nothing like China. In fact, many inventions
had come from Japan and it is viewed as a successful capitalist nation. It was a key player in World War Two, and while China posed a threat, it was
not deemed to be nearly as strong. Of course, things have not gone well for Japan in more recent years, but historically, it has fared better than China in many
respects. A student remarks that the Great Transformation influenced Japan and China and particularly as it respects economic and political modernization between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries. But
