Community Baldwin County is located in southernmost Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico. The county consists of some 2,027
square miles and, when compared to all counties east of the Mississippi River, ranks number twelve in size. Baldwin County enjoys a relatively mild climate, little industrial contaminants that
are of concern to health, and a sparsely distributed population comprising a population density of only 88 individuals per square mile. Thanks in part to the countys low population
density, much of the countys environment, in fact, is largely pristine. The larger cities that are incorporated by the county include Bay Minnette (the county seat), Fairhope, Foley, and
Gulf Shores. Demographic and Epidemiological Data Baldwin
County was home to 179,878 individuals in 2009 (US Census Bureau, 2010). These individuals comprise 40,284 families. Almost ninety percent of the countys population is white. Blacks,
in turn, represent ten percent of the population (US Census Bureau, 2010). Hispanics, Native Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and other races make up the remainder of the population.
