also suggests more government control, something equated with government assistance. That is, there should be a more powerful centralized government in the eyes of the Democrats. As time goes on,
the two leading parties-Republicans and Democrats-are ideologically often on the same page. Still, there are differences. Thomas Jefferson founded the party in 1792 ("The Democratic Party," 2009). At the time,
it was created in order to go against what was deemed to be an elitist Federalist Party ("The Democratic Party," 2009). In 2008, when the democratic presidential hopefuls would emerge,
there were many on the debate stage. The current Vice President Joe Biden was one as was former First Lady Hillary Clinton. John Edwards, the former senator who is now
embroiled in a sex scandal was also one of the front runners. After a time, the candidates would drop out and the strongest-Obama and Clinton-were at the top for a
long time. The race for the 2008 presidential candidacy had been a remarkable journey on both the Democratic and Republican sides. The Democratic Party would witness a more even race
and one where more voters had a say in the outcome. After a number of primaries and caucuses, front runners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had been neck in neck
for some time but in the end, Obama was victorious. It was a very close race, which gave the Americans more of a show than the Republican camp where candidates
