This is demonstrated by an examination of the changing role of doctors in an era of alternative medicine and awareness of medical negligence combined with individual specialisation. a result, contemporary times, compared with historical periods has resulted in a time when this expertise is regarded with a greater scepticism. There are many examples, from the unquestioning
trust that once surrounded the medical profession, the implicate feeling that politicians and political ideals would be used honestly, even the role of priests and religious leaders has come into
question gaining a lower level of influence and respect. If we look to why this has happened and examples of how this has happened the change in class structure, increased
education and increased media reporting in volume and speed all have an impact. We are told that the time prior to the last war is seen as a golden age.
Although economically there has been problems, with a partial collapse of the economy, the class structure was secure and predicable. IT is subsequent to this more stable time that uncertainties
have been created for both the individual as well as the family. These surround the notion of class and well as gender (Woodward, 1999). Class mobility has changed, no longer
is it associated with a matter if birth, with increased education classes are now more mobile, and one generation is more likely to change the class they fit into more
so than at any time in the past. In addition to this there has also been an amendment in the social perceptions regarding the way that class is interpreted, becoming
a more materialistic view, with economic affluence increasing in some of the more traditional lower classes, blue collar work, or physical occupations are no longer only the realm of the
