sporting little feet to note that there is an alternative to the Adam and Eve story. Parents continue to complain that the scientific explanation of how life began conflicts with
their own religious beliefs. What should they do? The 1960 drama Inherit the Wind exemplified the conflict through displaying the 1925 lawsuit that occurred when a teacher tried to relay
the theory of evolution in the classroom. In fact, evolution was not always taught. During the latter part of the nineteenth century, Darwinism "was the great bugaboo" (Parenti 20). The
Presidents of nine well known Eastern colleges prohibited the teaching of evolutionary theory as creationism was the only acceptable explanation of how the world began (20). Other relevant issues arise
in the classroom today concerning religion. Should prayer be allowed before football games? Should the choir be allowed to sing Christmas songs in December? And while many separation issues pertain
to things of a religious nature only, this debate involves science. Science as a discipline does include the theory of evolution, but it is something that seems to conflict with
religious teachings. In looking at both sides of the argument, web sites on one side, and then the other, will be assessed before reaching conclusions on this very controversial matter.
II. Creationism Clark contends that creationism is the only valid point of view and uses the Bible as proof (Clark PG). Utilizing Old Testament information,
he goes all the way back to the beginning, citing that God entrusted the world to Adam and Eve. Interestingly, the author highlights the following, after stating that Christianity is
