While some like Ayer believe man has the sole ability to direct his path throughout life without external infringement, others like Strawson argue how man is fully incapable of controlling how or where his life progresses and is, therefore, under the guidance of peripheral forces. When one looks more closely at the nature of these two arguments, it becomes easy to see how free will is most definitely applicable to human existence. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

When one looks more closely at the nature of these two arguments, it becomes easy to see how free will is most definitely applicable to human existence.
To Strawson (no date), actions are explained by citing reasons as causes, but that unlike ordinary causal explanations, the explanatory force of reason explanations does not
derive from placing reasons and actions in a nexus like circumstance. These two tenets are, however, incompatible. A center notion is presupposed by ordinary causal explanations, and therefore
reason explanations do not fit the same pattern of explanation as ordinary causal explanations. Ayer (2003), by comparison, asserts mankinds business on earth is no less bound by determinism
than a winged bird foraging for food. This concept spurred a great deal of controversy with many of the theorists contemporaries to the point that it was not uncommon
for others to counter such philosophies, inasmuch as those who conversed with him held staunchly opposing views that provided considerable insight as to each individuals independent thoughts and aims.
When establishing whether man is driven by free will or determinism, it is essential to first understand the difference between the two applications.
