minute volume of fuel (Rhodes & Beller, 2000). It seems to be a wonderful alternative to other fuel sources, but there are also more risks involved. Despite the dangers, the
nuclear industry claims that the risk is actually very small ("What is," 2003). Although many contend that the risks of nuclear energy are blown out of proportion, facts do
not lie. In reviewing a variety of problems with nuclear power, it will become clear that the risk of nuclear energy is significant. One risk that is often ignored when
talking about the release of low-level radioactive wastes into the environment has to do with the fact that biological organisms can concentrate wastes to dangerous levels (Edwards, 1972). Also,
while some things go unnoticed, certain safety issues are discussed, but there are problems anyway. While safety has always been a key issue, attention to it in some instances has
become lax, causing a great deal of concern. Britains most important nuclear plant has been under government scrutiny due to recent charges of poor safety practices in addition to
data falsification (Aldred, 2000). They had to scramble to prove their safety routine was intact or risk being closed down by the government (2000). There were also charges associated with
falsification related to this issue (2000). Further, a situation occurred at the New York Power Authority (NYPA) as an accident had gone virtually unnoticed (Rabin, 2000) . It
has been alleged that the NYPA knowingly exceeded federal safety regulations in an effort to cut costs (2000). Due to this, more than a dozen workers were contaminated (2000). This
is by no means the only situation where money played a significant role in compromising safety of workers and residents. In Japan, an accident turned Tokaimura into a ghost town
