seems to be no norm to culture, to society, or to traditions. This is largely because the nation is made up of many different cultures and many different personal family
histories. However, at the same time we can find some very powerful realities that speak of a culture, that speak of a United States identity. These realities are generally related
to the majority of one condition or another. For example, the majority of the American people have televisions and thus watch a substantial amount of television. This applies to African
Americans, Asian Americans, Italian Americans, Native Americans, and all other types of Americans. In light of this we can generally assume, and rightly so, that because the majority of Americans
watch own and watch television it is a powerful part of the American culture. With this simple example in mind, the following paper examines other conditions, or realities, that help
to define the American culture. The information presented will certainly not reflect all people and all racial identities, but the information will address the majority which is what essentially makes
the constructs of a culture. The paper uses one particular essay from Cornell University for analysis of these conditions. American Culture Social organization is something that many would
generally argue was very specific to particular ethnicities, but there are also patterns to social organization in relationship to the United States as a whole. Cornell University (2003) states that,
"Americans generally believe that people should strive to be autonomous and self-reliant. Most Americans see themselves as separate individuals, more than members of a nation, family or community." This is
