world known today would not exist. The following paper examines the Cuban Missile Crisis, a crisis that was one of the most monumental events in history. The Cuban
Missile Crisis: The Beginning In order to understand the Cuban Missile Crisis it is important to understand some of the foundations of the
event. During the 1950s Cuba was under the power of Fulgencio Batista, a right-wing dictator (The History Learning Site, 2007). He was seen as a very harsh leader and the
people of Cuba and the nation itself was poor, despite the support of the United States (The History Learning Site, 2007). Batista was strongly against communism and the United States
enjoyed good relations with the nation, a nation that was essentially "the play ground of the rich from America" (The History Learning Site, 2007). Because the conditions in Cuba
were weak, and the people truly disliked Batista this slowly changed through revolution and rebellious attacks wherein Fidel Castro ultimately took control and separated itself from the United States in
many ways (The History Learning Site, 2007). While Castro was essentially a man who sided with socialism, it was not really until the United States instilled a trade embargo that
all but forced Castro to go to the Soviet Union who offered Castro their support (The History Learning Site, 2007). The United States
