The cruise line industry is often associated with opulence enjoyed only by those with a high disposable income. This is an outdated perception as the cruise industry is one that
has grown and evolved over the last few decades into a more mainstream leisure industry. Part 1 Political Infuances The direction and

Within the industry the main trade association is the ICCL (International Council of Cruise Lines), this organisation represents the sixteen major cruise line companies. These companies are responsible for 95%
of all cruises in North America and globally 85% of all cruises (WTTC et al, 2002). In addition to the sixteen cruise line companies there are also a further 73
members which are strategic partners of the cruise line companies (WTTC et al, 2002). The cruise lines within this organisation operate 90 vessels and carry 7 million passengers (figures correct
for the year 2002) (WTTC et al, 2002). The members are the major operators in this sector and include Carnival Cruise Lines; Celebrity Cruises; Costa Cruise Lines, N.V.; Crystal Cruises;
