Since the riots of 1991, Crown Heights has had to rebuild itself as a community while retain its racial and religious divisiveness. I was assisted in this process through a personal friendship forged between members of two religions. I am Christian and my best friend is Jewish. Through this friendship, not only have we come to understand the differences in our society, human behavior and personalities, but our example has helped others in Crown Heights to transcend race, tradition and stereotypical issues - and we attribute our commonality as religious human beings to helping us gain the love we have for each other. We have done it by ignoring artificial separations, as Cooley suggested. Crown Heights Demographics My neighborhood reflects the community at large. Neighborhood is defined as a group of people and their farming and small area within a larger place within a town. My neighborhood in Brooklyns community is a five-block radius represented ethnically by Blacks, Orthodox Jews, and Hispanics. Many of the groups described below live in multi-family dwellings; however, there are many single family homes. There is a mixture of ages and you frequently hear different languages spoken.
