Europeans as some of the earliest settlers to the Lebanese migrants which started more than a century ago to the quasi-refugees of the mid 1970s with a number of migrants
that did not meet the definition of a refugee, but for whom the Australian authorities relaxed entry requirements (Henderson, 2005). This gives the image of a cultural divergent and tolerant
nation where multi-centralism is accepted and embraced. However, this is an idealised and unrealistic vision; no country has been able to achieve total integration and acceptance. Tensions will emerge and
it is often those who are different who are blamed, those who are new into a country or between groups where there are divergent cultural values and possible misunderstanding. This
was seen when there were clashes between Lebanese Australian youths and the dominant culture residents on North Cronulla Beach in 2005 (Henderson, 2005). It may be argued that
even in a multicultural society there needs to be the cross cultural experiences, this creates understanding and is more likely to result in cohesion, as fear is reduced and empathy
is increased (Biltion et al, 2004). However, when looking at the cross cultural experiences in Australia it is short sighted to look at the dominant culture as the principle culture
and then at others which have subsequently entered, this undermines the indigenous peoples; the original culture of Australia. The migration of peoples from Western Europe, and other areas, into
Australia during the 18th and 19th Centuries, following Captain Cooks claim on the territory in 1770, has lead to a dominant Anglo Saxon culture becoming established, so be definition from
