period when the nations Constitution was also being created and while the U.S. Constitution reflected the sentiments of the national population, the New York Constitution helped to cement the ideals
of a people that were distinct from the larger order. Indeed, New Yorkers are a different breed and that could be seen from the inception of statehood as many personalities
came forth. It seems that ideologically, the people of New York are entrenched in ideas which center around freedom and liberty. While one hears such rhetoric about the United
States as a whole, in examining the history of the creation of the New York Constitution, one can see that painstaking attention to such details had been given. The domestic
influences on the state constitutional content were many as the individuals argued about structure and content. Many influences were apparent inclusive of the new thinking of the Enlightenment and remnants
from European aristocratic thought. And while the colonists by and large rejected the English hierarchical model, the people certainly did look to the mother country for guidance as it created
its own Constitution. A blend of colonial influences did affect the creation of the Constitution as the new New Yorkers remembered the Boston Tea Party well and was suspicious of
the federal governments plan for taxation. Still, when all is said and done, the brilliance of the Magna Carter was recognized by those who wanted to make New York
the finest state in the nation. II. Events Leading up to the Creation of the New York State Constitution It happened on a spring day. The
