for those who liked them in their previous dim grandeur" (Web Columbia, 2004). The following paper descriptively analyzes one part of the Cistine Chapel, the painting known as "The Creation
of Man." The Creation of Man Web Columbia (2004) tells us, "As grandly impassive as the Erythraean Sibyl is the heroic Adam in The Creation of Adam, lifting his
languid hand to his Creator, indifferent to the coming agonies of being alive." In this painting we see a very powerful sense of contentment and oblivion in the figure of
Adam. Because of his languid position, lounging on the rock, we feel a powerful sense of relaxation and contentment. We also gain a powerful feeling that Adam is completely innocent
and new. He has not experienced the pain and suffering of life, which he will ultimately feel, and as such we are presented with an image, and understanding, of the
purity of man in the very first moments of existence. In the finger of God coming down to touch the purity and newness of Adam we have a powerful
sense of passion and love. The finger, and figure, of God seem incredibly powerful in that God is far older and he is above Adam. He is the figure of
power, yet his body posture and the fact he is extending a finger, gives the viewer a very gentle and loving view of the all powerful deity. There is a
