and the juvenile justice system; often it seems like society is being overwhelmed by children who have turned into monsters and run amok. But this is an impression only, not
necessarily the truth. This paper considers trends in juvenile crime and how the juvenile justice system will likely respond. It also analyzes an article about the subject. Discussion Its always
difficult to find useful statistics, but a publication called Juvenile Court Statistics 2005, released in July 2008, presents some good information. One of the problems with trying to codify information
about the juvenile justice system is that there is no national system; each state deals with its juvenile offenders in its own way. Any compiled information is of necessity an
abstraction, or the best estimate of national trends based on a sort of averaging. This document provides statistics about juvenile delinquency; the place to start then is with the
definition it provides of this concept. It states "[D]elinquency offenses are acts committed by juveniles that, if committed by an adult, could result in criminal prosecution" (Puzzanchera & Sickmund, 2008,
p. 5). The authors note that analysis of case rates "permits comparisons of juvenile court activity over time while controlling for differences in the size and demographic characteristics of the
