Europe had introduced the international style upon which the Corning Glass Building was constructed, lending an entirely diverse image to the brownstone that had heretofore epitomized a New York skyscraper. The severity of this glass and limestone structure was such a major departure from the staunchly sedate style of architectural motif that had occupied the district for the previous forty years that its mineral and Pyrex walls were either enthusiastically embraced as the new vision in structural design or vehemently disliked from a traditionalists perspective. No matter which side of the proverbial fence people were on, there was no contesting the fact that such innovation served to set a brand new precedent that was originally inspired by the Lever Building. Nearly four thousand glass blocks comprise the exterior panels of the Corning Building compared to the spatial composition of just one-quarter the ratio of limestone, a telltale change in conventional configuration that immediately placed it within the stylization of its international influence. Traditionally speaking, limestone made up the vast majority of a skyscrapers outer structure with glass serving only as a compulsory component that equaled but a fourth of the entire fusion. The Corning Glass Building took this modification even further by installing glass blocks onto the inside partitions as a means by which to illustrate the overpowering impression given off by such an immense measure of spatial composition.
