the ability to gain information from the patient themselves as well as from care givers in two semi structured interviews (Korner et al, 2006). The principle aim of the
tool is the assessment of depression with a bias of the psychobiological orientation of depression (De Bellis and Williams, 2008). Written in English the predominant use has been in
this language, it has also been translated into Japanese (Schreiner et al, 2003), and the research undertaken by Korner (et al, 2006) sees it translated into Danish. Therefore, the
basis of the test is for use with a population that may not be as articulate or have a compromised mental competency hence the use of the psychobiological orientation. However,
there has also been the use of the measure in population that does not duffer from depression as a more general tool, but this does not appear to be a
common usage (De Bellis and Williams, 2008). Part 2 In order to assess who is, or is not qualified to administer the Cornell Scale of Depression in
Dementia the first stage is to look at the way that the scale is used. The implementation of this measures sees the use of two sets of semi formal interviews
with a set of 19 items that need to be rated, each item is assessed and scored assigned a value of zero where there is an absences of the symptom,
