makes sense. Even if someone is in a committed relationship, it is possible that a spouse can stray and that might mean AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases enter the
picture. AIDS for example can even spread from mother to child during childbirth. One can see the ramifications of having unprotected sex. For the teenager, ignoring the advice to wear
a condom can be life changing. It can be deadly if the teen contracts AIDS. It can be life changing because many teens who become pregnant choose to keep their
babies. Condoms are used for birth control. Clearly, there is no reason to discourage teenagers from wearing them. On the other hand, there are some religious folk who believe in
abstinence based programs only. They argue that by giving children and teens condoms, it is tantamount to giving ones approval for premarital sex. For those who believe that individuals should
remain virgins until marriage, condom use should not be promoted. Rather, parents should teach their children family values and it is suggested that they wait until the time is right.
These parents will not discuss the possibility of sex before marriage, lest that will encourage the youth to engage in premarital sex. The opposition believes that abstinence based education is
not realistic. Teenagers are having sex and they are either getting pregnant or contracting diseases. It makes sense to encourage condom use. Based on these two points of view, one
can take things a step further. Should condoms be distributed in the schools? What role should the schools take, if any? The two camps of course are juxtaposed on the
