Introduction Karl Pearson was a man who contributed much to the field of statistics. He had been described by G. U. Yule "as a
poet, essayist, historian, philosopher, and statistician, whose interests seemed limited only by the chance encounters of life" ("Karl Pearson Biography," 2006). Indeed, Pearson was a sort of Renaissance man as
he dabbled in a number of things. Yet, his focus was on mathematics and particularly, statistics. His research was widespread because Pearson was interested in a wide array of topics
("Karl Pearson Biography," 2006). Karl Pearson was considered to be energetic and enthusiastic by the people who knew him ("Karl Pearson Biography," 2006). He married twice, but his personal
life was unremarkable. What was phenomenal about the life of Pearson is associated with the many ideas that he injected into statistics, some of which have come from the realms
of philosophy. As much as he had an interest in philosophy and religion, Pearson saw scientists as heroes ("Karl Pearson Biography," 2006). Pearson papered his walls with
quotes from various philosophers ("Karl Pearson Biography," 2006). While interested in different ideas, he was focused largely on mathematics and contributed a lot of information to the field of statistics.
Pearson was the one who came up with the concept chi-square and standard deviation for example. Anyone who knows even a little bit about statistics has heard of these concepts.
