The success of the book has been astounding, however it is not only the commercial success that has been noted, the book and the way it has been received has
also become a phenomenon. The book appeals to a number of interests, when it was written it was as a book of fiction, however in writing the book Dan Brown,
the author undertook a great deal of research which is included in the book, but at no point is this presented as factual. The use of research in fictional books
is common, the aim of the author of a good book, film, or other text, is so suspend disbelief, on this way the audience can become absorbed into the plots
and, for a while, immerse themselves in the world of the text. The Da Vinci Code goes beyond this, it has caused social contusion as well as impacting on a
number of areas economically, both positively and negatively. For the Da Vinci code there has been a different reaction rather than just
the suspending disbelief, the nature of the book, which was also based on existing conspiracy theories and myth, and tackled a subject that many books before it has looked at
blurred the line between fiction and reality. The research has been undertaken and the aspects of the book which are based on
known fact and myth are difficult to separate from the total fiction. The current social structures and beliefs are those which have also encouraged this approach. Conspiracy theories are
