along with others who have been unfairly convicted, must register with the state as a sex offender. In honing in on this subject, it is important to note that
state laws vary, but for purposes of this investigation, the state of Maryland will be used. What is the law in Maryland regarding the registration of sex offenders and notice
to residents? First, it should be noted that the state has very specific guidelines to this end. Child sexual offenders must register if they have been convicted of a crime
in Maryland for seven types of offences such as child sexual abuse ("Frequently Asked Questions," 2006). Others who must register are not in a child sexual offender category but have
committed an offense that is related to sexual abuse such as child pornography, solicitation or kidnapping ("Frequently Asked Questions," 2006). Sexually violent offenders must register as well as sexually violent
predators who have each committed crimes of a sexual and violent nature like rape ("Frequently Asked Questions," 2006). According to Maryland statutes, residents who have been convicted of these crimes
