While it may be true that there is some controversy on whether or not there is a crisis, there is certainly recognition that a movement exists. The activists are obvious
and make themselves known. They engage in unethical campaigns as they burn buildings, but by and large, they are peaceful. Some are found merely sitting in trees. Most are found
in all walks of life merely speaking about the environment and trying to create a better world. Yet, the movement did not spring out of the blue. As in all
things, the generation that started the movement had drawn on the cries of earlier generations. The modern environmentalist movement began during the 1960s but was built upon earlier conservation
efforts that looked toward controlling pollution and preserving the wilderness ("Conservation, Preservation and Environmental Activism," 2008). The movement however was a response, at least in part, to changes, which would
occur after World War II ("Conservation, Preservation and Environmental Activism," 2008). Lifestyles changed. Tract housing was built and the society was plunged forward into an era of plenty and sometimes
excess. The television programs depicting the life during the period like Happy Days and Mad Men demonstrate that the good life was upon America. People were beginning to forge careers,
make money and enjoy life. Along with this transition would be a greater tendency to use resources and pollute the air. Historians have written about the early forms of
