The discovery of the Americas opened a chapter of world history that ultimately reflected phenomenal consequences. Numerous factors entered
into that discovery. Not surprisingly, those same factors ultimately set the stage for European interaction with the indigenous peoples who actually owned the lands they invaded.
Two primary factors inspired the European peoples to set sail across the ocean and set up home in lands that had yet to be discovered.
These factors were religion and the desire for resources. Both, in some ways would eventually be associated with greed and selfishness when it came to how these peoples dealt
with the Native Americans they encountered. When we think of America we typically think of it in a contemporary sense or, at most,
our thoughts might extend back to colonial times and the efforts our forefathers extended towards carving out a new home for the European peoples that so diligently flocked to these
shores. Close on their heels, of course, were the Africans and Asians that would ultimately make their way here either voluntarily or involuntarily. They too ultimately had extensive
relations with the Native American peoples and, as was the case with the Europeans, those relations were not always positive. In general, although, those relations were not as destructive
