is not yet confirmed, but the events of the end of the summer would prove even more significant for Roberts. With the death of William Rehnquist, George Bush quickly took
the podium and nominated Roberts to take the highest position of the land, the Chief Justice of the United States. The fact that Roberts is nominated for the highest position
does change things. If accepted, it would mean the U.S. Supreme Court would go from a Rehnquist Court to a Roberts Court. What would that mean for America? Much has
to do with his opinions. What does John Roberts stand for? What decisions has he made in the past? These questions are important as they dictate the battle ahead. Every
confirmation is in fact a battle because it is feared that if a Republican president nominates a judge, the ideology will shift to the right and the same would happen
with a Democrat president, but the fear instead would be a move to the left. In any event, today one is presented with the facts which see George Bush as
pulling the strings. What can be expected as John Roberts continues to go through the process? For Roberts to be able to sit on the bench, he needs a majority
vote in the Senate. Therefore, his views are very important. Based on past decisions and statements, it seems that Roberts would not oppose Roe or try to overturn it. With
conservative viewpoints, but a rather liberal stance on abortion, Roberts might actually get the nomination. Roe is an important factor for the moral majority but it is also important to
the Democrats who do not want to see the case overturned. While he would not be likely to overturn Roe, he still gets a great deal of Republican backing. Also,
