This paper considers the character of John Yossarian, the novels anti-hero. Discussion Yossarian establishes himself as a voice of reason early in the book, when he very sensibly objects to the fact that people are trying to kill him (Heller). (Green 186). It is Yossarians derailing of Clevingers patriotic thinking that makes the exchange so funny, and establishes Yossarian as an anti-hero immediately. The central metaphor of the book is the Catch-22 itself, the idea that ...
