with is a shared assumption about good in a variety of ways. Yet, there is still a problem with the meaning of good and some disagreement between the two philosophers.
First, what is good? It is a rather ambiguous term and by most accounts, a relative thing. It is not good for example that Uncle John died, but it is
good that he at least went peacefully. It is good that Howard got the job, but it is not good that Roger got fired. Other examples demonstrate that what is
good for one, is not good for another. Mary did not want it to snow because it would mean she would have to drive 30 miles on worn tires, but
Carol could not wait for it to snow so she could go skiing. Is snow good? It is hard to tell because the term "good" always involves perception, and circumstance,
to some extent. Great philosophers like Aristotle and Plato did not take such things for granted. Rather, they delved into the concept as if it were something that had never
been thought of before. In fact, the idea of a priori knowledge certainly provides food for thought as there is now the idea that concepts and forms had to begin
somewhere. How does one know that they are looking at a pink, or a red, or a blue item? How did colors become labeled in the first place? How does
one describe something like the color purple? It is difficult to comprehend all that is involved in such matters, and what that has to do with the conception of good
