discover the truth, or otherwise meet their personal needs. Hamlet is a story wherein many of the characters "act" for one reason or another. For example, Hamlet acts insane in
some parts, despite the fact that he is likely also losing some touch with reality. Claudius acts as though he is not responsible for the death of Hamlets father and
as a result also acts as though he truly cares about Hamlet. In essence, many characters throughout Hamlet act for one reason or another, in one situation in another. Bearing
that in mind the following paper examines how Hamlet, Claudius, and Ophelia provide illustrations of how important the theme of acting is throughout the play. Acting in Hamlet
For the most part we do not see people being incredibly honest in the beginning of the play. We note that Hamlet is perhaps taking everything at face value, and
being himself as he mourns the death of his father. But, we note that Claudius, and even Hamlets mother, seem to be putting on some kind of act, telling Hamlet
what is done is done and he should somehow move on. It is not until Hamlet sees the ghost of his father, who informs him that he was murdered, that
we note a change in Hamlet that begins to involve serious acting. In this simple examination thus far we can note that Hamlet must act if he is to
discover the truth. No one is going to be honest with him, and he will not find out the answers by asking people, or by assuming others will be honest
with him. As a result the play begins to seriously immerse itself in acting as Hamlet starts his role. And, it is through his acting that the rest of the
