live and pay bills, and even how they love. The following paper examines how (thesis): the computer has impacted and influenced society. The Computers Impact on Society
As mentioned, many people have, throughout the past, found different technological advancements change their lives and society. Electricity change the nation and how they
lived. Air conditioning changed how people live and work. And like any technological advancement the truth of how much it has changed society was never foreseen. As one author notes,
"before 1950...experts" failed "to foresee the ways in which computers would change our lives" (Schnaars; Carvalho, 2003). Once computers began to emerge in the government and in science and business
the experts slowly began to change their minds and slowly, through the years, realized that the computer would and did change society.
In looking at some of the simple daily acts of individuals in the society one can see how the computer has really changed many things. For example, prior to the
computer people would call one another on the telephone or they would write a letter. If they wanted to send someone a picture they had taken they had to first
take their film to a store and have it developed and then they would have to mail that picture to someone. This
was the same with business communications as well. But, with the computer people can instantaneously talk through typing, they can take digital photos and business information and immediately email it
