itself elicits a variety of responses from various Christian groups. In other words, evolution in many cases is not inconsistent with Christianity, but in other cases is the antithesis
of Christianity. The majority of Christian groups view evolutionary theory somewhere in the middle of these two extremes. And still,
while many Christian churches say that they have come to terms with the scientific method that production evolutionary theory, the reality in many cases is that inherently they do not
integrate this reality into their belief systems (Pence, 1998). For instance, the whole notion of the "fall" from grace which occurred with Adam and Eve is evidence of the
inability to integrate science with faith (Pence, 1998). In other words, because of the Christian practice of continuing to teach the "fall" from grace/innocence, Christianity supports a doctrine of
sin that "implies a departure from or corruption of some moral perfection that has been lost and that entails and justifies punishment, just as Adam and Eves expulsion from the
Garden continues to be read as a punishment for disobedience that justifies and provides the rationale for all manner of human punishment of one another" (Pence, 1998).
To understand however how different Christian groups understand evolution, it is important to understand the two different formulas for evolution (Christian Answers, 2003).
The atheistic theory of evolution contends that evolution is equal to matter, plus evolutionary factors (such as chance, necessity, mutation, selection, death, etc.), and very long periods of time (Christian
Answers, 2003). Conversely, the theistic evolutionary view includes God in the equation, so that the equation reads: matter, plus evolutionary factors (such as chance, necessity, mutation, selection, death,
