There are two separate elements to this question, the first being the
way in which web research is conducted, and the second, the issues surrounding the Communication Decency Act itself. However, the two sections are inter-related, since the Act refers specifically to
internet censorship and the way in which internet usage and access should be regulated.
The student should first familiarise themselves with the way in which web research is undertaken and the use of search engines, as
this will demonstrate the techniques used to access information about the CDA. A search engine, such as Google or Lycos, is the system by which one can find information on
the World Wide Web. In some cases the information required is easy to locate - in this instance, for example, the CDA is a popular topic and one on which
there has been much discussion, therefore there are many different websites available. Some of these give details of the Act itself, some of the appeal against it, whilst others discuss
in more detail the general issue of Internet censorship and the way in which it should be applied.
