Purported experts, in an effort to answer this implied question, assert that the layperson should feel comforted to know that there are traditions of thought that dominate the philosophical
treatment of this topic. However, personally I am not particularly comforted, and when ruminating about what the Cold War and World War II have in common, the first thing
that comes to mind is the obvious -- the rampant decimation of human life. Moreover, this devastation all occurs within the confines of the actual, intentional and widespread, armed
conflict between the relevant political communities. However, that cannot be all that is being sought. Therefore, this comparative essay will examine the major events taking place in
both wars, in the search for what they have in common (besides the obvious), and what events/ issues show disparities. The causes of war have long been a
source of mystery and debate, (despite the precepts touted by the "experts"), and many suppositions have been posed along these lines. It might be said that the most frequently
cited causes for war are as follows: A common enemy to a nation/ group of people; an outside threat to a nation; mob mentality, or the power of inspiration in
the masses; and the inspiration by some other outside cause. With respect to one whose actions instigated World War II, all of these characteristics can be attributed/ applied to
Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany (Response From Democracy, 2001and See Also Hitlers Germany, 2001). Further, this particular conflict resulted from the rise of totalitarian, militaristic regimes in three
