lives as either being controlled by the Communists or as possessing freedom under the umbrellas of capitalism and democracy. The concept is simple. One must side with the U.S. and
its allies or succumb to Communist forces where their lives will be controlled and they will essentially be slaves. In retrospect, it is curious notion. After all, life seems to
fall in the middle. Few government types allow for complete freedom, or take complete control. For example, Communist China dabbles in capitalism today, and the United States has implemented many
rules and regulations. One would be hard pressed to find a country that is either completely free or completely enslaved. What created a situation where the world was looked at
in that manner? It is important to note that during the 1950s many things occurred. By 1952, there had been much to make free countries nervous. For example, in 1949,
the Soviet Union would acquire atomic weaponry and the Chinese would become communist after a civil war ("The Cold War, 1945-1952," 2010). In 1950, North Korea would invade South Korea
("The Cold War, 1945-1952," 2010). The world was slowly but surely becoming communist, and it was something that was occurring without the consent of the people. The Domino theory would
emerge, and with this theory, the people began to believe that they could be taken over by the communists. They then saw the fight as one concerning freedom and slavery.
There are many events that occurred to illustrate this point of view. The war in Vietnam was fought largely due to the fear of communism. It was thought that
if the North Vietnamese would win, then communism would spread. The U.S. would support the South in order to not only help the Vietnamese, but also prevent Communist from spreading
