It resulted in the aftermath of World War II. While the Russians were our allies during this war, its culmination left much to be desired from the Russian
perspective. At the Teheran Conference Stalin was indifferent to the division of Germany into separate sections controlled by the Allies, however, at Yalta he was fully in support
of dividing Germany (Rauch 7). Germany would be divided into four segments with the principle players (the United States, Great Britain, France and Russia) each controlling a sector (Rauch
7). The city of Berlin was in the Russian sector but was also divided into four sectors (Rauch 7). The divisions of
Germany and Berlin were initially supposed to be temporary and the occupation of them would last only until a stable peace was achieved (Wallbank, Taylor and Bailkey 67). The
sections occupied by the United States, Great Britain and France became known as West Germany and the section occupied by Russia became known as East Germany. When Germany was
initially divided, all four occupying countries agreed to reunite Germany and install a democratic government. Russia would ultimately not comply with that agreement.
The Conference at Yalta was the last meeting the United States, Great Britain and Russia would have under friendly circumstances as relationships between Russia and the other
two countries began to steadily deteriorate after this (Wallbank, Taylor and Bailkey 67). Russia considerably expanded her sphere of influence to include all the eastern European countries and installed
