wealthy has never faded. The Hilton sisters have become enormously popular primarily because they are wealthy. Good looking girls are a dime a dozen. With millions under their belts however
they become icons. The idea that class is no longer relevant is simply not true. Rather, the idea that everyone has the same opportunity in America seems to be a
myth perpetuated by the majority. There is a sense that anyone can become rich through business or by winning the lottery or simply by hard work. Members of the upper
class or elite see themselves as hard working and attribute their success only to that, but the check out girl at the supermarket likely works harder and then goes home
and cooks dinner after picking her kids up from daycare. The class struggle is exemplified by those who cannot make ends meet or have aspired to wealth but have
gotten themselves into financial trouble instead. There is a glass ceiling to some extent, and while income can perhaps propel one to the next class, it is not necessarily going
to do that. Class is about prestige and refinement. Sometimes a good job will help, but class is about education, money and power and cannot be equated with a salary
range. The fisherman who may bring in six figures one year may never be considered a part of the upper crust. The lower and middle classes struggle. They struggle for
power while seeing wealthy individuals become elected to office. John Kerry runs on Ketchup money whereas George Bush has a family fortune that backs him. Mayor Bloomberg made his millions
before running as did Arnold Schwarzenegger. It seems that the rich and famous rule, while the lower classes struggle for those few jobs that have trickled down from the economy
