different ways. Sometimes the ways in which the authors make these young adults think can seem disturbing and far too real. This is perhaps the case with "The Childrens Story"
by James Clavell and "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. They are both incredibly deep and excellent stories that have led many to dislike the books because of their ability to
truly put the reader in a position where they must think and perhaps even more frightfully, think for themselves. The following paper compares the two works, illustrating what they have
in common. The Childrens Story James Clavells story is a very short story that can be read by many in under and hour. It is also a very
simple story. However, the simplicity should not mislead people into thinking it is a childish story for it is a very deep story that speaks of the vulnerability of children
and the education they receive. In this story we have a classroom wherein the regular teacher, in tears, being told that she must go to the principals office. She is
told this by a new teacher, a pretty and young teacher. This teacher is never given a name and we never know why she is there or why the old
teacher was replaced. Part of the reason for this is because the story takes place during only 25 minutes of the childrens day. The new teacher begins talking and
begins to influence the way the children think. The entire story revolves around the teachers determination to illustrate to the children the meaningless position of the Pledge of Allegiance. Throughout
the story we see the children fall to her side, never having really understood what the Pledge of Allegiance was about in the first place. There is one voice, one
