has become a mere pawn in Iagos hands, blinded by hurt, ruined by his own naivete" (Mabillardothello.asp). In the following paper we examine the character of Iago as he proceeds
to manipulate and deceive people for his own ends. Iago "Certainly, Iago was a liar; much like the biblical Jacob, Iago was discontent in his subservient role and
deceived those around him to bring down the rightful rulers" (Anonymous Iago the Liar Othello.html). He begins the play by insisting that we know he is something other than he
appears to those around him, stating to Roderigo, "I am not what I am" (Shakespeare I i). "The problem with Iagos preferred method of service is that he cannot be
trusted. He admits to being deceitful, purely for his own purposes," and we know this from the beginning of the play, leaving no doubt that Iago is a conniving
and deceitful individual (Anonymous Iago the Liar Othello.html). We have only to watch and see who he deceives and how. Interestingly enough, everyone around Iago knows that he
has lied to others, yet they do not seem to understand that he is lying to them as well. "Roderigo knows Iago has deceived Othello. Othello knows Iago has deceived
