One dilemma it faces is the future of its university system. Many solutions have been proposed but the future is still uncertain. In evaluating this issue, one must
look at the consequences of a problematic educational model. What is the legacy of Japans past and present university system? One problem to emanate from weaknesses in the university
system is a lack of chemists and chemical engineers (Porter and Takeuchi 66). This is simply one example. There are numerous others. Japan is losing its edge and
its lack of attention to its failing institutions is part of the problem. In improving Japans higher educational system, there have been suggestions made to the effect that privatization
might be a good fix. The aiding of privatized expansion, government proposals for revisions in the overall education system and other ideas have been bandied about. In assessing Japans
future, one will want to be cognizant of the cost of a university education and what the effect privatization will have on tuition. Increases in tuition all too often
