operators that are unable to influence the way the business moves. The bricks and mortar stores have also seen a large amount of change with a gradual shift towards the
larger stores where more books can be sold, while smaller stores have closed due to this trend, increasing concentration is a pattern seen in maturing industries (Thompson, 2005)
The book industry itself may be seen as mature, but the internet medium is changing the way books are distributed and therefore the shape of
the industry which is likely to impact on the competitive structure of the industry in the future and e-commerce is still ion the growth stages (Chaffrey, 2004).
The patterns with the ability of the large book stores and the internet retailers have been to increase the choices that a consumer will be
able to make. In the past there would be limited choice, traditional retailers had limited shelf space, if a larger choice were kept it meant there would be less room
for the popular stock. Large book superstores have not only bee able to offer choice but have also discounted the suggested or recommended retail selling prices, offering consider discounts. To
compete with the friendly and personal service, as well as the loyalty that was developed by the smaller stores, as well as price differentiation was also developed with the facilities
