Essay / Research Paper Abstract
3 pages in length. The family unit is an ever-changing entity in today's society; unlike sixty years ago when families consisted of a father who worked outside the home, a wife who maintained the household, children who appreciated the simpler things in life and a cohesion among all members that came from spending quality time together especially over the evening meal, contemporary families hardly resemble this fairytale description anymore. Each member of the twenty-first century family unit is to busy with the pressure to succeed - either in school or the workplace - to have much meaningful interaction with the others. Everything - even recreation - is approached at breakneck speed because there is simply too much to fit into a single day. The dismal result of today's impact upon families is such that communication, discipline and supervision are all but nonexistent. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

all but nonexistent, a reality that indicates how "family contexts can have profound effects on child development, including the likelihood of delinquency and various antisocial behaviours" (Kerr et al, 2007,
p. 85). Two types of appropriate research methods for this topic include secondary analysis of existing data and surveys, the latter of which applies a qualitative approach in order to
reach into the greater human element involved in this particular subject matter. Indeed, there is no shortage of existing data from which to conduct a secondary analysis, a method
that would then complement the qualitative study in its attempt to corroborate results. Providing a literature review of existing studies provides a solid cross-reference of problem statements, methods and findings.
The benefit of utilizing data that has already been researched is once the various studies have been analyzed in the literature review, the students own survey will have the
