what they believe that more education can accomplish for them - personally, professionally, even financially. There are motivating reasons for attending any college program that are completely separate from issues
associated with the intrinsic value of learning. To think otherwise is to ignore the realities of the work world of the 21st century. Having listed what the student hopes to
gain from his education, he or she then needs to consider what they will need to pay for it. Such costs include financial concerns but must also include personal sacrifices
such as time away from family, less leisure time, increased stress related to attending classes, taking tests, homework, and more. The student working on this project will want to consider
just how much they are willing to give up in relationship to what they expect to gain. What will the ultimate effect be of their decision? Is it quantifiable? What
makes them believe they will follow-through with and complete their program this time when they have not been able to in the past? All of these issues can serve to
present an example of an important process that will lead one to understand how example and effect work toward a particular outcome. What Will It Take? An adult returning
to college is certain to have a very different set of circumstances to deal with than those of a 19-year old living in a college dormitory. He or she is
more than likely to have a full-time job, family, and other obligations that have little to do with attending classes and doing homework. In their study of persistence and motivation
