now keep their phone numbers even if they change cell carriers, and they can convert their landline number to cell phone numbers (Weston, 2006). Just due to this change,
it is expected that cell phone users - nearly 30 million - will change cell phone service providers in the first year after implementation of these mandates (Weston, 2006).
Furthermore, as new customers investigate changing cell phone service, they will also be checking out the various types and various functions of different cell phones. Everyone is going to
want more business. It is anticipated that there will be great deals - more minutes, lower monthly fees, cooler phones and possibly even better service - as the cell
phone service providers try to keep their current customers and compete for as many others from other providers as they can. Since fear of losing their number is the main
reason consumers cite for staying with cell phone companies that they are not totally satisfied with, number portability is a very big deal indeed for cell phone carriers eager to
