was the war to end all wars; and so far, luckily, it has been. It is generally accepted that World War II began because three major powers had been
dissatisfied with the outcome of World War I. Germany, who had been the primary defeated nation, was upset by the territorial losses, and the general terms of the Treaty
of Versailles. Italy, although one of the victors, wasnt content with its territorial gains. Japan, also a victor of World War I, wasnt satisfied because it didnt gain
control of China. Thus, in 1936 began treaties and talks of the newly formed Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis. In 1938 the German armies marched into
Austria and took control of that country, Again there were protests. But no nation was willing to take up arms against Germany. In fact, each time the
Nazi armies marched into another territory, Hitler promised that it was his last move. I want peace, ho told the world as his armies invaded each neighboring nation.
Early in 1938 Hitler took another step in his plan to conquer Europe. He demanded to be given a part of Czechoslovakia called the Sudetenland. This was an
area where a large number of Germans lived. but the Sudetenland had never belonged to Germany. Hitler, however, ordered that it be given to Germany or he would
