great deal. Today, there are numerous opportunities to work at home and telecommuting has become all the rage. Although this is the case, many people do not realize that the
ideal of working from home is not always easy. Many have the idea that they can get their work done quickly and have more time for themselves, but some feel
that it is difficult to get away from the office when the office is in their living room. While telecommuting is convenient, there is a psychological burden too. On balance,
telecommuting is good, but people have to have the right personality to successfully engage in such endeavors. Thus, some people fail and prefer the daily grind so to speak.
The causes of the phenomenon of telecommuting are numerous. Some of the causes are monetary. It is less expensive for people to stay at home than to pay for gas,
but also, the employer has a reduced expense as well. The causes of telecommuting also involve the advent of the Internet and the lowering of the cost of computers.
Prior to the advent of the computer, and the ease of use of the Internet, there was no practical way for people to telecommute. Some people did take work home
with them, but it was not a regular thing. The effects of telecommuting are multitude as well. On one hand, people do benefit financially. They do not have to
spend money on a wardrobe or on transportation, and lunch is consumed more economically too. Yet, there are drawbacks. For certain personality types there are missed deadlines and negative emotion.
