to be a very important reality to many people, for those individuals who are forced to move from a space of 10ft. x 10ft., as was perhaps the workspace in
the past, to a space of 6ft. x 8ft. the implications or the effects can be powerful as well as devastating. The following paper examines the cause and effect of
shrinking workspaces with a focus on the notion that reducing space is only really good for the company who wants to save money, not for the employee. The
Cause and Effect of Shrinking Workspaces According to one author, "Companies strive to increase privacy and collaboration in open-plan office environments" and this results in the effect wherein "More team
space is designed into office space - sometimes at the expense of individual-workstation square footage" (Madsen, 2006). This simple cause and effect can be seen as a very simple change
in the way organization takes place in companies and while it may not seem like an important change, for people at work must realistically work together most of the time,
the truth is that space is being taking from the individual. It also appears as though space in general is reduced through such approaches (Madsen, 2006). So many organizations,
