looks worn as it should as it was built centuries ago. It is now a tourist attraction but has historical significance, not only for what it represents in and of
itself, but also as an exemplification of a period of architecture that existed in Spain some time ago. It is also a beautiful structure and compared with todays straight edges,
the architecture is similarly straight but intricate as well. The Cathedral of Barcelona is certainly an important piece of architecture that has been treasured for some time, and it has
a long and distinct history as well. In fact, building which now stands is really something that had been built on the original site of a Roman Temple (Smith, 2002).
Perhaps the most distant origins of the Cathedral correspond to a basilica that had three naves and was something that was destroyed by Al -Mansur ("The Cathedral"
2002) . The remains of the basilica may be seen in the City History Museum today (2002). Obviously, that original building is something that does not stand now, and is
not the object of contemplation, but rather, it is what had originally existed in place of the Cathedral of contemplation. What happened was that at about 1046, a new cathedral
would be built, something that was initiated by Bishop Guislabert (2002). Again, this is not what is believed to be the final structure that exists today, and is just something
that came in between the original roots of the site, and the final Cathedral. There are only a few references to this particular building that only stood for a short
time and it is believed to have occupied a part of the Gothic building and some Romanesque elements remain (2002). Construction on the present day building started in 1298
